Program

WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART
Quartet in Bb major, K. 589 "Prussian"

This quartet is the second of three Mozart string quartets dedicated to the King of Prussia.  The Jerusalem Quartet’s recording of this piece was the winner of the 2012 BBC Music Magazine Award.

DMITRI SHOSTAKOVICH
Quartet No. 1 in C major, Op. 49

The Jerusalem Quartet also has an award winning recording of Shostakovich's first string quartet.  This performance is part of the Jerusalem Quartet’s Shostakovich Cycles for their 2012-2013 concert season.

ALEXANDER BORODIN
Quartet No. 2 in D major

Dedicated to his wife, Borodin wrote this as a memory of when they fell in love 20 years before.  Given this dedication, it is no wonder this quartet has some of the most beautiful, romantic melodies.
